Lakshmi Puja at 6:40pm led by Pandit Tiwari Ji was followed for the first time by a smudging and blessing ceremony by the representative of the First Nations community to set the celebrations going. The entertainment session got off to start right on time (as always) at 7:00 p.m.

The segment opened with classical Bharatanatyam performance by Kalalayam Academy, followed by Bollywood Express’s explosive performance. This was followed by a combination of community and professional performers including Bhangra, Giddha, Dol Tasha, Nepali folks dance, a presentation of Abhimanyu and other amazing regional performances.

This was followed by professional fireworks at Victoria Park, lighting up downtown London for 16 minutes.

Gratitude to the 1100 attendees, volunteers, participants, sponsors and our vendors who made these celebrations possible.

Diwali or Deepavali, which means a row of lights, is the biggest and most popular ancient festival of our Dharmic traditions. Celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains, the festival marks the return of joy to our minds, going from darkness to light & new beginnings symbolized by the return of Sri Rama to Ayodhya, Bandi Chorr Divas and Nirvana of Mahavira. Like the row of lights lit from a single source, all of us and everything is one with the Universe and powered by the same source.
