Sewa Canada International, Srishti Foundation’s Seva partner has completed building a Residential School for Under-Privileged girls in the remote hill district of Meghalaya, India,

For over 4 years, Team Sewa Warriors at Srishti never stopped running for these girls, to raise money for this project. From 2013 to 2016 – every year – our volunteers including youth ran Marathons, Half-Marathons & 5 Kms at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon to raise awareness and money for this project.

Our supporters and donors from Canada, USA & Dubai supported us every year to help raise about $50,000 for Sewa Canada, to help empower girls from Tribal communities in Meghalaya with the gift of education.

The logistics, construction and coordination of the building activities over the last 4 years involved overcoming many challenges due to the remoteness and topography of the site. However with diligent, committed work from Sewa Canada’s volunteers in Canada and on the ground in Meghalaya, the residential school facilities were completed successfully, in good time, within budget.

The facility was commissioned in May 2018 and about 30 girls call it home. The facility has rooms that provide adequate living space for children and facilities for their studies and self-development. There are certain additional facilities that need to be put in place shortly like a Computer Centre, Library and a Power Inverter to ensure uninterrupted power.

Our team visited the facility in June 2018, to see the facility for themselves, inspect the facility, meet the girls who have now moved into the facility and discuss upkeep and processes at the facility.

We would like to express our gratitude to all of our donors and supporters who have made a difference in the lives of these girls and many more to follow at this school, from the adjoining districts.
